You are right about it being a choice. But be careful - regardless of the "denialism", it is risky behavior, and we all know it. House of Numbers is now widely discredited as pseudoscience, and one of its main "characters", Christian Maggiore, died just before the film was released, a fact that showed up in very small print in the credits.
